Amanda Feral Salon

Amanda Muni-Morgan

Hi, I’m Amanda Muni-Morgan, owner and wig stylist of PhD Wigs at Feral Salon & Social. My journey behind the chair began in 2007, fresh out of high school. I’ve always loved the transformative power of hair and had a natural knack for it, learning from my Uncle David, who let me hang out in his salon and later became my instructor during hair school in Daytona Beach, FL.

I started my career at Hair Cuttery, where I honed my technical skills and eventually became a salon manager. But corporate life wasn’t for me, so in 2012, I began working independently alongside a talented group of stylists. I built a wonderful clientele - but I also felt a strong pull to explore my other passion: marine science and sustainability.

In 2015, I began my academic journey and moved to St. Petersburg - a hub for marine science (and craft beer) that my husband and I instantly fell in love with. I earned my PhD in Ecology from the University of Florida, studying water quality issues like stormwater pollution and harmful algal blooms such as Florida Red Tide. My doctoral experience was incredibly challenging, but it taught me resilience, creativity, and how to approach complex problems from multiple perspectives.

After completing my PhD, I continued into a postdoctoral research position, which helped me realize that academia wasn’t where I thrived. While I’m grateful for that chapter, I discovered that my true fulfillment comes from working directly with people - creating something tangible, meaningful, and confidence-restoring.

PhD Wigs brings my two worlds together: the precision and curiosity of science with the artistry and compassion of hairstyling.

Hair loss can be devastating, deeply affecting one’s self-esteem and confidence. My goal as a wig stylist is to restore comfort, normalcy, and self-expression for clients experiencing life-changing diagnoses or various stages of hair loss - through skilled, compassionate care. We’re in this together.
